Wharf museum and canal shop or the town centre followed by a Canal Boat trip then by coach to a Canalside
pub
Book Early to be sure
of your seat
limited to the first 50 people paying in full
£ 10
each person.
The coach will take us past the foot of the Caen Hill flight of locks as it approaches Devizes, and we shall alight at the Wharf between 2 and 2.30 pm for a free period, until we return to the wharf to board the wide beam canal boat ìKenavon Ventureî at 4 pm for a 4.15 pm prompt departure.
The Wharf was one of
a number in Devizes during canal carrying days, the warehouse nearest the water
is home to a theatre and the long building at the side of the wharf which was
once a granary then a bonded store now houses the headquarters, shop and museum
of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust and the Devizes Tourist Information
Office, which will all be open and are well worth a visit, as is the Town
Centre.
The boat trip will take approximately one and a half hours, there will be a bar and loo on board the boat. We will travel away from the twenty nine locks, and follow the route toward London of the annual Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race which starts at Devizes Wharf each Easter. The boat will cruise through a delightful cutting, past a Victorian Barracks and turn near the Devizes Marina for the journey back to the wharf.
Upon arrival back at the wharf please be ready to alight, Laurieís second coach party will be waiting to board! We will rejoin the coach for a five minute journey to our canalside pub stop at the Black Horse Inn on the flight of twenty nine locks at Devizes, the skittle alley will be reserved for our use, to ensure that we are served and back on the coach in about 30 minutes, for the journey home.
