Study "A" level Biology at the Norton & Peaks Centre of the Sheffield College.

Career Opportunities:

WHY STUDY BIOLOGY?
No-one can feel anything but awe and fascination when looking at the Natural World. What can be more natural than trying to find out more about it, especially as to how Man evolved and our place in the scheme of things? Biology thus fits in well with Geography, Psychology and Chemistry.

Biology can lead to a career in:
Agricultural science, biochemistry, biotechnology, botany, dental surgery, dietetics, fish farming, forensic science, forestry, - forest officer, genetics, marine biology, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, opthalmic optician, osteopathy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, psychology, teaching, veterinary science, water pollution control, zoology.

Students planning to study Biology in Higher Education are strongly advised to study'A' Level Chemistry in addition to Biology.

Warning:

'A' level Biology is as difficult as 'A' level Chemistry and Physics. It is not an 'easy option' for weaker students wishing to take and pass one science subject.

UCLES '96 introd1.html

UCLES "A" Biology Modular Exams.

... A student (and parent's) guide. Norton/Peaks Centre.

Main points:

6 modules to be taken over 2 years (5 theory + 1 practical).
* 5 hours tuition + a minimum of 5 hours private study is needed per week.
* Each module lasts for approx. 10 weeks.
* Biology is not a soft option for students wishing their portfolio to contain a science subject, ( and/or to link with Sports' Studies) but find the other 2 sciences difficult. This subject contains chemistry and maths. It is the same standard of difficulty as chemistry or physics.
* The texts for each module are excellent. You could pass without us!
* You can take each module as many times as you wish. We will pay for 7 of them.
* You can "bank" them for up to 2 years.
* Unless you attend for 80% of the lessons & hand-in 80% of the written work (usually past exam papers), we will not enter you for that module. You will need to do it & pay for it!
* Unlike a "linear" course, this course needs you to hit "A"level standard in the first module. We know and appreciate that you will ALL find it difficult. We will do our best to gently shoe-horn you in!
