Midsomer Norton station ...latest! (May 1997)
The restoration of the prize winning Mendip station continues at best possible speed.
During these first 12 months of the Trackbed Trust's main project, over 1 800 man
hours labour has been put into site working. We would like to thank everyone who
has joined us and helped, especially the 22 volunteers who have contributed to site restoration on 152 working days
to date.
Presently, the station area is totally free from overgrowth, with a little more
work needed to finally get the 1 in 52 trackbed south back to early seventies grassy
ballast standard. The main buildings are secure and swept out, with most educational
embellishments removed. Lighting, electric and water are on, and some platform repairs
and weedkilling has been carried out.
Decoration of the booking hall & waiting room has almost finished;station windows are being reglazed and the railings on the Down side have been repainted.
All correspondence should go to the station address (Silver St. Midsomer Norton).

Thanks to Dave Clarke of Canon Clarke Ltd of Bath for help with the remedial damproofing.
A problem with exactly which trees we are entitled to cut down has arisen. Meeting soon with the Forestry Com.
