The Somerset & Dorset Railway Restoration Society/Trust.

Now that the Millenium Bid has failed, the Society is exploring the following possibilities:

  • To establish a rail site at Moorewood, close to the A37. It would then be possible to run for 1.5 miles to Binegar whrer it may be possible to take over the old shed there. However, not only would a substantial bond be required but the land arrangments are not ideal and it is not a place awash with tourists.
  • To establish a railway line from Maesbury to Moorewood. However it may be difficult to come to an agreement with the present station landowner.. Nice views though!
  • Shepton Mallet to ??? Near to Wells; Council support needed.
  • A museum at Bath Green park;.no possibility of running trains.
  • a joint Museum with the NSR (see below) at Radstock in the old co-op building.

    The NE Somerset Railway Project

    (Ex- Radstock - Frome Project)

  • Rails are in situ.
  • Links with the national network at Frome
  • Interesting 5.5 mile, steeply graded, line.
  • Freight + Passenger possibilities.
  • A (new) station at Radstock would offer the possibility of a link with a re-opened S&D line to Bath.
